Motivation
“Try to understand Jagannatha. Jagat means the moving world, gacchati iti jagat. The Sanskrit word gacchati means that which moves—all these planets, the universe, the sun—everything is moving, and we are moving. Jagat-nātha, nātha means master and owner. Therefore, Jagannatha means the owner or master of all this movement. And Balabhadra, Balarāma—Bala means strength, and rāma means pleasure. Balarāma means the one who gives you spiritual strength so that you can enjoy eternal blissful life. Subhadrā—su means auspicious, and bhadra means prosperity. Subhadra, Jagannatha, and Balarama are here together to pull you all out of this miserable condition of life. That is the purpose of this Rathayatra! If anyone sees Jagannatha, Subhadra, and Baladeva in the cart, he will not have to take birth again in this material world. Ratheja vamanaṁ dṛṣṭa.” (Prabhupada, 1970-07-05 San Francisco Rathayatra)
